The Locator
The B-roll used in the show was one element I thought really tied the show together and gave a sense of where both Tim and Angela came from. The B-roll used for Selinsgrove definitely captured a small town feel and I could definitely tell that it was Selinsgrove having lived here for three years. When they showed Angela’s hometown of North Carolina, they portrayed a very country location. You get a sense that Angela lives in a rough situation just by seeing the town and house she lives in. The B-roll definitely captures the subject’s life and where they came from. The only negative thing I thought about the B- roll was there was not a lot of contrast between Selinsgrove and North Carolina and both came off as very small country towns.
The locations that were chosen also played a huge role in shaping the show and the subjects being focused on. The fact that they went to both Tim and Angela’s house to get their initial interviews was a strong choice because you were able to get a strong sense of where they both came from and the different lives that they live. Also the choice of having Tim and Troy talking in nice living room setting, as opposed to Troy and Angela in the messy kitchen created good contrast between the two contrast. The final location of the bed and breakfast was also a good choice because it was very classy and secluded giving our attention to the subjects and not the surrounding area. It also was good because it was utilized for the final surprise revile from Tim and Angela meeting for the first time. It created a very emotional moment that may not have been if they meet at a crowded restaurant. The locations also give the host Troy control of situations and the ability to create a sense of mystery about him.
